Kolambi Bhaat (prawns pulao) | Non vegetarian easy to make rice
Step 1
Ingredients
- Ginger – small piece
- Garlic cloves – 1 to 2 number
- Green chilli – 7 to 8 pieces
- Coriander leaves – handful
- Mint leaves – few
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tablespoon
- Red chilli powder – 1 tablespoon
- Garam masala powder – 1/2 tablespoon
- Prawns – 1 kg (Deveined and cleaned)
- Salt – as needed
Preparation
Grind all ingredients ( of course except the prawns !!!) to a fine paste. Use part of the ground masala paste prepared to marinate the prawns. Add salt and mix well. Marinate for 30 minutes.

- Cooking oil for Shallow frying
- Ginger paste – 1 teaspoon
- Ghee – 1 tbsp
- Garlic paste -1 teaspoon
- Green chilli chopped – 2 to 3 (as many as you can handle )
- Mint – 1/2 cup
- Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup (chopped)
- Salt – one tablespoon
- Garam Masala – 1 teaspoon
- Fennel powder – 1 teaspoon
- Tomato -2 numbers (sliced)
- Cashew nuts – 1/2 cup
- Basmati rice – 2 cups(washed and drained)
- Coconut milk -1 cup
- Water – 2 Cup
- Coriander leaves – for garnishing
Preparation
In a pan add oil and when the oil is hot, fry the prawns (prawns to be half cooked). Now transfer the prawns out of the pan. To the same pan add ghee, finely chopped onions, ginger paste, garlic paste, green chilly, mint and coriander leaves. Saute till colour changes. Add salt as needed, garam masala, fennel powder, remaining ground paste (from step 1) and tomato. Saute till tomatoes are cooked well and forms a thick paste. Now add cashew nuts and fried prawns. Mix well. Now add the rice and mix gently. Add coconut milk and water (use the same measuring cup for rice, water and coconut milk). Cover and cook over low flame till no water is left in the pan. Once cooked, rice will be firm but tender. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
